keepfileslocal

terms of use

In one line: the tools are free, they run on your machine, and what you do with the results is your responsibility.

what the site offers

keepfileslocal is a set of free tools that read and rewrite files — images today, PDFs next — entirely inside your browser. There is no account and no charge, and the tools may be used for personal and commercial work alike.

what it does not do

  • It does not store your files, and cannot recover one you have closed.
  • It does not send files anywhere, so it cannot share, publish or transfer one for you.
  • It does not guarantee that a file will open in any particular piece of software.
  • It does not remove anything from a file other than what the tool you chose says it removes.

files you do not own

Use these tools on files you own or are entitled to work on. Nothing here checks that, and nothing here could — the file never reaches us — so the responsibility is entirely yours. Removing metadata to conceal the origin of material you have no right to, or altering a document to misrepresent it, is not a permitted use.

no warranty

The tools are provided as they are. They follow the published specifications of each format and are tested, but they can contain errors, fall behind a change in a standard, or be unavailable. The operator of this site is not answerable for decisions taken on the basis of a result, nor for loss arising from a file that was altered, kept or discarded. Keep the original until you have checked the result.

content and ownership

The text, the interface and the code of this site belong to the operator of this site. The files you produce with the tools are yours, with no condition attached, including at work. Copying the site's editorial content for republication is not permitted without permission. The icons are from Lucide under the ISC licence and the typefaces are IBM Plex under the SIL Open Font Licence.

names mentioned

Format and product names — JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, PDF, HEIC and the rest — belong to their respective owners and appear here only to say what a tool reads or writes. This site is not affiliated with any of them.
